The 12th Annual Georgia Strawberry Festival will be April 23-24, 2010 in Reynolds, GA. Events will be include a 5K Run for Literacy, an arts and craft show, the annual Strawberry Cookoff, a lawn mower race and teddy bear parade, classic car show and the Woman’s Club Old Book Sale.

On Friday evening beginning at 5:00 p.m. the Reynolds Woman’s will have barbeque pork and all the fixings for $6.00 per plate (advanced ticket sales at 478-847-3435.  The cub scouts will have hotdogs and other snacks and the 4-H Club will have their luscious Strawberry Shortcake. The local gospel group Wide Open will be performing following opening ceremonies and Southern Vision of Valley, Alabama will provide great southern gospel music beginning at 7:00 p.m. and for the remainder of the evening.

The 5K Run for Literacy is the first scheduled event for Saturday morning at 8:00 a.m..    This is a Run and See Georgia event.  Even if you don’t walk or run in the event it is inspiring to see all of these dedicated people start out as a group as they leave from the ball field on South Liberty Street.

Saturday will find plenty of vendors set up and ready to sell their arts and crafts beginning at 9:00 a.m.  All of the food booth spaces have been filled and will have delicious goodies available all day.

The Teddy Bear Parade on Saturday morning is a treat for all youngsters participating and they will line up at 9:30 a.m. on Calhoun Street for the 10:00 a.m. parade led by Reynolds S. Berry.  This year participating youth are asked to donate a minimum of $1.00 which will be given to the Children’s Hospital of Middle Georgia.  The Grand Parade follows the Teddy Bear Parade with Charlie Hicks serving as Grand Marshall this year.  The Pediatric Neo Natal Ambulance will be in the Grand Parade and will be available for viewing during the festival.  The Fort Valley State College Marching Band will be marching for the very first time this year in the Grand Parade.

A Classic Car Show will be in the Julian Knight City Park as the cars finish the parade and go back to park and be admired.  Setting the mood will be music coming from the juke box (provided by Dunn’s Antiques) in the gazebo.

Back across the street in downtown Reynolds you can enjoy area talent on the Main Street stage beginning at 11:00 a.m.  The Photography Show will be in the Depot beginning at 10:00 a.m. and is very interesting.  Judging will be by the Middle Georgia Camera Club.

The Woman’s Club Old Book Sale begins at 9:00 a.m. in the Flint Energies Maintenance Building.  Anyone wishing to donate books before that day may bring them by Reynolds City Hall.

The Fine Art Exhibit begins at 10:00 a.m. in the foyer of Flint Energies.  This features a variety of art pieces from around the state.

The Strawberry Cook-Off is in the Flint Energies Auditorium and begins at 1:00 p.m.  Taste tickets may be purchased at the information booth for $1.00 each on Saturday, from 9:00 a.m. until 12:45 p.m.

The famed Lawn Mower Races begin at 5:00 p.m.  What can be said about that except “you just have to be there”.
